You will often hear us talk about our salon products. From heat protectants to shampoos and conditioners, we stand behind the products we recommend. However, there is a huge discrepancy in price from the products we carry and drug store alternatives. So, what is the actual difference between the two?
Salon quality shampoos contain high quality soft cleansers to remove dirt and buildup while preserving some natural oils to keep the scalp happy and healthy. They will also use very high quality and heavily concentrated oils and vitamins to maintain hair shine and keep it as healthy as possible, and will source natural fragrances to prevent unnecessary irritation while also giving the desired smell. Salon shampoos will also almost always have a targeted hair type or concern. There are specific ingredients and formulas that are used to prevent frizz, repair damaged hair, add shine, keep blondes bright, hydrate curly hair, the list goes on and on. Each individual shampoo will not work optimally for every single head of hair because they simply aren’t designed to. There is also much less water content in salon grade shampoo as compared to store quality. You only need a small amount (about the size of a nickel depending on hair type/density) to cleanse your scalp meaning our bottles can last 3+ months when used correctly.
Drug store shampoos often use extremely harsh cleansers to compensate for how diluted the active ingredients actually are in comparison to the massive water percentage. These cleansers will strip the hair of every single good and bad oil in your hair with its extreme lather, making your hair feel squeaky clean right after, but overtime causing excessive oil production that makes you feel the need to use even more of their product on a more frequent basis. These drug store shampoos will also add a plethora of low grade, moderately appealing ingredients to claim they solve a wide range of issues to appeal to the most amount of people as possible. They like the one size fits all ideology and it works for them. It creates the ability to mass produce one or two cheap formulas to lower the overall cost of production and get you the cheap stuff that “works”.
You spend so much money to get the perfect cut and color from us, why go home and ruin it with the harsh, ineffective shampoos that strip color and aren’t designed for you and your texture in mind? If you have ever thought that your hair has started becoming more oily much quicker, there's that squeaky feeling right after cleansing, or you experience dry, brittle hair, it might be time to try a better shampoo.
